Music, Dance, and Physical Education are central elements of the challenging curriculum at Lakeside School.

Kathy McKinney has taught Physical Education at Lakeside since 2004. Her P.E. program has yielded impressive results. Student scores on the state and Presidential Physical Fitness tests have improved steadily every year, and more importantly, according to Kathy, “Lakeside kids love P.E”! Prior to coming to Lakeside, Kathy spent a decade working in high-tech public relations, a career she left when her two children were young. Kathy is an avid power walker and has completed 17 marathons. When she’s not at Lakeside, you’ll find her working for her husband’s home based business or volunteering in her children’s schools. Kathy has taught preschool at Mountain School (LGSONS) and served on the boards of both LGSONS and Loma Prieta Home and School Club. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from San Jose State.

Wendy O’Meara has been teaching elementary and middle school students line dancing, as well as square dancing and ballroom dancing for over ten years. Wendy has been at Lakeside for five years. She is certified in square dancing and is a member of the golden State Dance Teacher’s Association. Wendy loves to see her students gain confidence as their skills develop and believes dance classes combine music and physical education in a very enjoyable format. Wendy also teaches all ages at Roaring Camp in the summer. Wendy is a Bonny Doon resident.

The newest member of the enrichment program at Lakeside is music teacher Ms. Casey Lelake. Casey describes herself as a life-long musician beginning by “pounding away on our piano” as a toddler and then assuming the discipline of piano lessons at age 6. Casey is a graduate of the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music with a BA in Music Education. Casey’s music teaching experience includes classroom music, instrumental music, choir, and guitar. Casey also teaches music in the Scott’s Valley USD. Casey lives in the Santa Cruz area.
