Parcel Tax Exemptions


What is the parcel tax?

On May 4, 2010, voters in the Lakeside Joint School District approved Measure C.  As a result, each parcel owner within the District was  taxed $311 per parcel each year for seven years. Measure C expires in May of 2017.

On March 7, 2017 Residents of the Lakeside Joint School District approved Measure A. Measure in a parcel tax of $647 per parcel and goes into effect beginning the 2017/2018 tax year.   This parcel tax expires in 2025.

Specifically, these funds will be used to preserve high quality academic programs for elementary and middle school students, attract and retain high quality teachers, keep instructional programs up to date, and provide a safe, well maintained learning environment in our mountain community.

What optional exemptions are available?

The following annual exemptions will be granted upon application and verification:

  • Senior citizen exemption (65 years of age or older)
  • Contiguous parcel exemption
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for a disability
  • Non-taxed parcel exemption ( parcels assessed at less than $2,000 will be exempted)


How do I apply for an exemption?

Simply complete the appropriate Exemption Application Form, and provide the necessary documentation as noted on the form by June 15 to receive an exemption for the fiscal year beginning July 1.  Specific information regarding exemptions is available on the District’s website at, or by calling the Parcel Tax Exemption Officer at (408) 354-2372.  You can either:

Please bring a completed Exemption Application Form and copies of all required documentation to the Lakeside Joint School District Office, Located at 19621 Black Road, Los Gatos, CA 95033

The Parcel Tax Exemption Officer will be available from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Friday until the application deadline on June 15

All mailed applications must be postmarked no later than June 15.

Will I have to apply every year?

No.  Once you meet the exemption criteria, you will not have to fill out new forms every year.  However, to continue to be exempt, you must still own and live at the property exempted.
