School Staff Meet our instructional staff below. For a complete list of school staff, please find the School Staff Roster at the bottom of the page. TK Teacher Annabelle Siino Ms. Siino is a dual-certified teacher (special education and multiple subject – general education) with 11 years of experience in Pajaro Valley USD and San Lorenzo Valley USD, working with preschool to 3rd-grade students. Kindergarten Teacher Rachel Carlson Ms. Rachel Carlson has spent the past 7 years in San Diego and now resides in Santa Cruz. She received both her Bachelor’s in Cross-Disciplinary Studies and her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Point Loma Nazarene University. Ms. Carlson taught Kindergarten in San Diego for the past two school years. In her time in San Diego, she has developed a passion for creating a positive and safe learning environment for all students. Her goal is for all students to develop a love of learning, develop a strong identity as writers, mathematicians, and readers, and most importantly, to feel a sense of belonging in the classroom community. In her spare time, Ms. Carlson enjoys spending time with friends and family, hiking in the mountains, relaxing at the beach, listening to audiobooks, and embroidery. She is looking forward to becoming a part of the Lakeside community and getting to know each family this school year! 1st/2nd Grade Teacher Danielle Chabot Ms. Chabot is a Felton native and currently resides in Santa Cruz. She recently graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz with a Master's in Education and multiple subject teaching credentials. Previously, Ms. Chabot spent nine years as a full-time ocean lifeguard for California State Parks. Her goal is for her students to explore and interact with the world around them, to problem solve and take risks and find multiple ways to solve problems. She desires to develop the whole child and for every student in her classroom to feel seen, heard, and valued during every moment of our time together. 3rd Grade Teacher Unal Majid Teaching is Ms. Majid's second career, having first worked as a software engineer in New York. She started her teaching journey as an Oak Grove School District substitute teacher, and worked with grades pre-K to 8th grade. She completed a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from CalState TEACH and has spent the last 3 years as a full time teacher at Edenvale Elementary School. Ms. Majid believes that teachers have a profound impact on young minds, and that there is no process more important than that of educating our youth. She has a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. 4th/5th Grade Teacher Kaelyn Hsu Ms. Hsu has been teaching for six years and has taught third through fifth grades. Ms. Hsu is a proud San Jose State Spartan, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Science for Multiple Subject Teaching as well as her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction. One of her highest values as an educator is in creating relationships with students. Relationships with students, families, and other staff members are all aimed to help students be successful. Special Education Teacher Kerry Edels Ms. Kerry Edels has been working in the field of education for 30+ years in different roles. Some of her experiences include; preschool teacher, Instructional Assistant, parent volunteer, Education Specialist/ Resource Specialist and Home and Hospital Teacher. She holds degrees in Child Development and Special Education as well as certifications in Social -Emotional Learning, Art Education and Yoga instruction. After five years as a mentor with the Santa Cruz / Silicon Valley New Teacher Project, Ms. E is excited to return to the classroom and a school site as an Education Specialist where she can work collaboratively with teachers and families in support of student growth and success. In her spare time, Ms. E can be found hiking, riding her mountain bike, practicing archery, floating in lakes, creating art, growing flowers and herbs or playing with her family and pets in the beautiful outdoors we are surrounded by. Superintendent/Principal's Message Dear Lakeside School Community, It is with genuine excitement and heartfelt gratitude that I introduce myself as your new Superintendent/Principal of Lakeside Joint School District. I have spent my career serving in various roles across education, from teacher to principal, and most recently as an Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. Joining a small, vibrant school community like Lakeside truly feels like coming home. I grew up on the island of Kauai, where I learned the importance of community, connection, and care. These values align beautifully with the spirit of Lakeside. In every role I have held, my focus has been to foster environments where students feel known, staff feel supported, and families feel like true partners in education. Professionally, I have led large-scale initiatives in academic professional development and inclusive education. What excites me most about this opportunity is being part of the daily rhythm of a one-school district. I am eager to support our amazing team, partner with our families, and help ensure every student thrives academically, socially, and emotionally. On a personal note, I am a lifelong surfer, an avid hiker (often with my dog, Oliver), and a proud father. My favorite days involve a good book, great music, and time spent outdoors. You will often find me chatting with staff on campus, waving to students during drop-off, or stopping by classrooms to witness the magic of learning in action. As we begin this school year together, I look forward to listening and learning alongside you. My ears are always open, and I welcome your stories, questions, and ideas.
