Absence Reporting

The District’s attendance and discipline policies and administrative regulations are meant to balance the rights of an individual student with those of the total school population.  Regular attendance in school is mandatory for the student to gain the maximum benefit from his/her education; therefore, all absences are subject to verification by school officials.

To be tardy means not being at school for the start of the flag salute, which is what we have consistently monitored. Students will be sent to the office for a late pass if tardy.

Click the button below for more information on Lakeside's Attendance Policy.

If your child will be absent from school, please notify the school:

  1. By phone at (408) 354-2372, OR

  2. By email at absent@lakesidelosgatos.org

If your child will be absent for illness, please indicate their symptoms when notifying the school. (NOTE: If any of the symptoms indicated are similar to those of COVID-19, they will be required to attest to a negative COVID-19 test in order to return to school. You will be notified to complete the COVID-19 Negative Test Attestation Form prior to their return.)

Independent Study

Independent Study is provided for Lakeside students to accommodate travel plans or other situations requiring the student to be away from school.  Contract dates must be at least 3 consecutive school days and not more than 15 school days.  Independent Study will be approved for no more than 10 school days each school year.  Approval for an Independent Study Contract must be obtained from the Lakeside office 2 weeks in advance of the contract dates.

Completing an Independent Study request ensures a continuity of learning for your child as well as minimize unexcused absences for your child.

If your child will be absent for a duration that is eligible for independent study, please complete the form linked below and submit AT LEAST 2 WEEKS PRIOR to the contract dates.
