Regular attendance in school is mandatory for the student to gain the maximum benefit from his/her education; therefore, all absences are subject to verification by school officials. To be tardy means not being at school for the start of the flag salute, which is what we have consistently monitored. Students will be sent to the office for a late pass if tardy. Click the button below for more information on Lakeside's Attendance Policy. If your child will be absent from school, please notify the school: By phone at (408) 354-2372 , OR By email at absent@lakesidelosgatos.org If your child will be absent for illness, please indicate their symptoms when notifying the school. - Bob Chrisman Award | Lakeside Joint Union
Bob Chrisman Award In 2011, the teaching staff instituted this award in honor of former Superintendent Bob Chrisman to encourage student involvement in community service. While Mr. Chrisman was at Lakeside, he brought with him his enthusiasm for serving not only the Lakeside Community but the broader Los Gatos Community as well We believe that community service benefits not only the recipient of the service but also the student providing the service. This award is open to all Lakeside Joint School District Students- kindergarten through eighth grade. To be eligible for this award, your student must provide a beneficial service to a community or a community organization. Some examples could be the Town of Los Gatos, City of San Jose, beach cleanup, volunteer for an animal shelter, soup kitchen, or church activity. We hope to inspire all students to find a way to provide a beneficial service and provide that service over the summer. - Student Behavior Expectations | Lakeside Joint Union
Student Behavior Expectations At Lakeside School, we aim to create a positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environment. We focus on the reinforcement of positive behaviors as opposed to focusing on what they aren't doing and punishing inappropriate behaviors. We do this by emphasizing the 3 B's--Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible. By emphasizing the 3 B's, both students and staff have a consistent set of expectations that we encourage both in and outside of the classroom. The 3 B's Be Safe Keep hands and feet to self. Tell an adult if there is a problem. Be Respectful Treat others how you want to be treated. Include others Listen to adults Be Responsible Do my own work Personal best Follow directions Clean up messes Handbook for Student Success Lakeside School is dedicated to helping students become healthy, self-reliant, resilient citizens. Keeping the agreements and living up to the expectations will make everyone’s experience at Lakeside positive. These expectations are to be discussed between parent and child. - History & Mission | Lakeside Joint Union
Lakeside Then & Now Established in 1881 and serving as a one-teacher, 1st – 8th grade, single-room school up until the mid-1950s, the history of Lakeside School is deeply intertwined with the Los Gatos and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Eventually, it became big enough to incorporate Central, Brown, Castle Rock, and Fairview Schools. The bulk of our current campus was built in 1967, with our Community Center completed in 2004. Kindergarten was finally added in 1984. Lakeside’s largest enrollment peaked in 1986 with 180 students. Today, Lakeside serves Preschool through 5th grade on its Black Road campus. Our MISSION is to: Create independent learners with a rich and challenging curriculum, distinguished by instructional variety, innovation and collaboration while fostering social-emotional strength. And our VISION is for: Lakeside Students achieve at their highest potential to be prepared for their future. In 1997 the Lakeside Joint School District Board of Trustees voted to move their grades 6-8 (middle school) program off site to neighboring middle schools in nearby school districts. Currently, Lakeside JSD middle school students are being served at: CT English MS in the Loma Prieta Joint Union School District , Dartmouth MS in the Union School Distric t , and Redwood MS in the Saratoga Union School District . The District offices and staff are located on the Black Road campus. (More information about the history of Lakeside can be found at the Whole Mountain Source Book .)

- Dangers of Synthetic Drugs | Lakeside Joint Union
Dangers of Synthetic Drugs Assembly Bill 889 added Section 48985.5 to the California Education Code. This new law requires public schools to share information annually about the dangers of fentanyl. The misuse and abuse of opioids and other drugs, including prescription medication, is already cause for concern; however, there has been a rise in the prevalence of fentanyl use across the United States. “Fentanyl is the single deadliest drug threat our nation has ever encountered,” said DEA Administrator Anne Milgram. “Fentanyl is everywhere. From large metropolitan areas to rural America, no community is safe from this poison. We must take every opportunity to spread the word to prevent fentanyl-related overdose death and poisonings from claiming scores of American lives every day.” Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50 times stronger than morphine and is now causing more deaths across the country. We are highly concerned about our young people as many drugs including marijuana may contain deadly levels of fentanyl which cannot be seen, tasted, or smelled.
