Extracurricular Programs

Lakeside offers a robust curricular program that includes twice weekly physical education as well as art and science once a week. Additionally, Lakeside provides additional extracurricular opportunities like those listed below. 

Chess Wizards

Join Chess Wizards this semester for tons of challenging chess lessons, exciting games, and cool prizes. You'll improve your chess skills, and work out your most powerful muscle - your brain!  Our classes are geared to suit children of all skill levels; from chessling to checkmate artist, students will build upon their knowledge through lessons, variation games and more! More than just a game of winning and losing, we make learning chess fun!

 

Chess Wizards will take place from 02:45pm - 03:45pm on Mondays between September 16th and December 9th. Registration is open to all K-5 students.

Sketcher’s Club

Tuesdays 4:15-5:00 p.m.

Grades 3-5

Ten week session: $200

 

Sketcher’s Club is a fun and creative children's art class focused on the basics of drawing and sketching! With plenty of encouragement and guidance, we'll explore different drawing techniques, from basic shapes to more detailed sketches.

We'll start with simple shapes and lines, learning how to combine them to create fun drawings. Students will discover how to use shading to add depth and texture to their drawings, making them look more realistic.

 

This class is perfect for children in grades 3-5 who love to draw or want to learn more about drawing and sketching. No prior experience is needed—just a passion for art and a willingness to try new things!

Art Exploration

Wednesdays 1:15-2:30 p.m.

Grades TK-2

Ten Week Session: $380

 

This playful and imaginative class is all about discovering the joy of art through fun activities inspired by famous artists. Children will explore different art materials while learning about key art elements such as color, shape, and texture. Each session encourages creativity and self-expression, making art a delightful adventure!

What We’ll Learn

Art Elements: Through engaging projects, children will explore the basics of color, shape, and texture. We'll learn how these elements come together to create exciting and vibrant art.

Artists' Styles Each class will introduce students to a famous artist like Kandinsky, Matisse, or Monet. We'll have fun mimicking their unique styles, creating colorful masterpieces inspired by their work.

Exploring Materials Children will have the chance to experiment with a variety of art supplies. We’ll explore how different tools and materials can be used to create different effects and textures.

Animation

Mondays 2:45-4:30 p.m.

Grades 3-5

Ten Sessions

 

Students will learn how to create their own stopmotion movies. We will explore various types of animation such as simple drawn animation, paper puppets, object & toy animation, and animating with clay.  There will be an emphasis on learning how to visually tell a clear story without narration. Students will write and storyboard their ideas. There will be a final screening of the completed films.  Donation to art program can be made by check to Lakeside School for $35 with a note “donation to art program."

After School Sports

This clinic brought to you by Stanford Park Sports will challenge students mentally and physically to help them become the best possible versions of themselves on and off the court. 60 minute sessions led by our experienced coaches who not only played on the collegiate level but pursued their careers playing overseas. Shooting, footwork, ball-handling, defense, rebounding, and passing are some of the vital pieces of the game.

Note: each program requires a minimum of 10 students.

Fine Art Introduction

Tuesdays 2:40-4:15 p.m.

Grades 2-5

Ten week session: $380

 

This dynamic art class for students in grades 2-5 is designed to nurture creativity while

introducing young artists to advanced techniques and professional materials. Through a blend of hands-on projects and art history, students will explore essential elements of art and design, learning how to express themselves while drawing inspiration from important artists.

 

What We’ll Learn-

Elements of Art: Students will delve into the building blocks of art—line, shape, color, texture, space, and form. They’ll learn how to use these elements to create balanced and eye-catching compositions.

Design Principles: Understanding the principles of design such as contrast, rhythm, emphasis, and balance will help students create more sophisticated artwork. We'll explore how these principles are used by artists to convey meaning and emotion.

Advanced Techniques: From experimenting with shading and perspective to exploring color theory and blending, students will gain confidence in using professional materials like graphite pencils, charcoal, and pastels. They'll also practice layering and mixed media techniques to add depth and interest to their work.

Art History and Inspiration: Each session will spotlight a famous artist, such as Van Gogh, Georgia O'Keeffe, or Pablo Picasso. Students will learn about the artist’s style, techniques, and contributions to the art world, then create their own masterpieces inspired by these artists.

Adult Art Class

Unleash your inner artist and discover the joy of creativity in this relaxed and light-hearted adult art class! Whether you’ve never picked up a paintbrush or simply want to explore new techniques, this class is all about having fun with art. Through playful activities inspired by famous artists, you’ll learn to express yourself and enjoy the process of making art—no experience or talent required!

What We’ll Do:

Art Inspired by Masters Each class will introduce you to a different famous artist like Van Gogh, Monet, or Frida Kahlo. You’ll learn a bit about their unique styles and try your hand at creating art inspired by their work. It’s all about exploring and enjoying the creative process!

Fun and Easy Projects:

From painting to collage, each session features a simple and fun project designed to help you relax and enjoy making art. You’ll experiment with different materials and techniques, discovering how easy and enjoyable it can be to create something beautiful.

No Pressure, Just Play:

This class is all about letting go and having fun. There’s no right or wrong way to create, and absolutely no pressure to be “good” at art. You’ll be amazed at what you can create when you’re just enjoying the moment.

 

Who Can Join:

This class is perfect for adults of all ages who want to explore their creativity in a relaxed and supportive environment. No prior art experience or talent is needed—just a willingness to have fun and try new things!

 

What to Expect:
